September Reflection and October Direction

As September becomes October I’ve been reflecting on the past month and setting intentions for the remainder of the year.

I’ve been gradually working more to illustration briefs and am increasingly align my visual creative activities with my communications, marketing and public relations work. It’s an exciting time as these two fundamentals of my work come together.

Striking visual content that catches attention by standing out, as people scroll for meaning and satisfaction on social media, is key to reaching the right people with messages that will make a difference to their lives,

Watch this space.

So here’s my reflection on my favourite illustrations and artworks from September.

From left to right top row:

Stitched greeting card design, new drink concept bottle design, folk costume design for if Inspire by Kim were a country – we have to love nature, our survival depends on it.

From left to right second row:

Floral watercolour painted on location at Renishaw Hall, ‘Summer Reading’ spot illustration for magazine editorial, and finally fabric folk costume design using free machine embroidery, fabric paints and sparkly embellishments.

Looking forward to October it’s a busy time for me with annual property management tasks, business strategy work and putting creative communications agreements in place for the new year.

As well as this I’ll be using #inktober (the ink drawing a day for October) prompts as briefs to visually communicate fundamental messages that I passionately believe in. Pop back through the month to see those or see the daily posts at Inspire by Kim Instagram.

Here’s my first day illustration to kick off the month…

It’s also the time for stocking my shop ready for the Christmas shopping 🛍 spree. Pop in and take a look.

Thanks for being here. Get in touch if you’ve a positive project that you want help communicating.

Have fun

Instagram Highlights

Here are latest highlights from my Instagram feed. I like Instagram as I can send my work across the planet and people near and far can see it, maybe in far flung places that I can only imagine. From my life to theirs in an instant. Shared interests found.

It’s been a busy time with my Foundation Studies final exhibition. My products exhibited for the first time after months of hard, but enjoyable, work at The Workstation in Sheffield City Centre.

I remembered my intricate paintings of the white dog Sam, completed a year ago, on his journey as he hoped to fly. I shared a previously private video of the ebook. You can watch this, 55 seconds movie, here.

Work In Progress – A rare sunny no breeze day meant I was able to work outside on my next intricate paper cut picture. This imagined scene is inspired by the Brighton’s seafront, with a tearoom, vintage style dress and ladies wear shop, and next a beach goods shop. This is the latest in my series of paper-cut pictures

For a family birthday for an avid French Alps skier I turned a microfibre glasses cloth into zipper bag on my wonderful Bernina sewing machine.

I hand painted, printed and sewed a shower cap as my final exhibition product. Wipeable lining from my friend’s Sheffield haberdashery emporium Direct. Loved the pink satin binding – a beautiful find from Berwick Street, London

I made a video of my recent work to promote my exhibition.

And finally my dress design fabulously modelled by Lucy.

That’s a snapshot for now – more at my Instagram and Facebook Page

Whatever you’re doing enjoy and bye until next time.

My latest project is an A-Line Dress. I’ve been busy printing fabric for the first Inspire by Kim garment. The design elements for a wearable manifesto were created in freehand embroidery, intaglio printmaking and batik. Here is how the project developed in pictures…

And then to print the colourful bias binding…

Once completed it was time for the photo shoot… thanks to the fabulous models who demonstrate the intention of my work to be light against the darker side of life.

My Week on Instagram

As I don’t post everything on my blog here’s the latest from my Instagram feed. I like the instantaneousness of Instagram and the global reach. Lovely to think of someone  thousands of miles away viewing my artworks.

I announced that I will be speaking and exhibiting at an International Women’s Day Event on 8th March, and created this artwork for the event marketing.

I continue to develop my learning of developing repeating patterns, this time using a watercolour and metallic mandala, based on techniques learned whilst studying with Jessica Swift’s Pattern Camp.

I like to take a peek at photos I took a year ago and saw this painted lady. I added a face and replaced the background to make a vibrant image with the mantra – Stride On – You’ve Got This. A positive nudge for anyone who may be struggling with January Blues.

I shared the video of the creation of my latest commissioned artwork for a Manchester United Football Club fan.

I played with some fabrics that I had screen and collograph printed to create a moulage on a mannequin. And realised that fashion may be my guilty pleasure.
