A year ago I first decided to start sewing into my art with my Pink Lady painting on satin. Fast forward a year and I’m surrounded by fabrics I’m designing and creating with them.😀🌈

I feel I’m progressing and improving my techniques, which inspired me on to create and inspire.

Inspired Bags

I decided to develop a beauty bags concept. I first create a boxed unlined beauty bag from a repeat pattern fabric that I had created.

I then decided to take my Ice Cream Paper Picture and heat press it onto satin to make panels for a bag.

I machine embroidered a wadding backed printed satin panel

I decided that a main panel on the front with a repeat pattern design on the back panel might work nicely. So I made the pattern elements and then created the pattern digitally in my favourite app Pixelmator. As learned in Jessica Swift’s online  course Pattern Camp

I printed out the designs onto heat fuseable paper then ironed them onto fabric and sewed a fully lined (invisible seam) bag on my fabulous Bernina machine.

And finally, for now, I made a bag from satin featuring a design I created in printmaking and digitally. The bag is also  fully lined with hidden seams and is machine embroidered.

This one feels quality and I’m proud of it. The colours and design work well.

I adapted two online instructions from a website and YouTube tutorial to make the bag.

Finishing touch – matching zip pull.
The bags are a key part of the final major project for my art Foundation course, and I have my first ‘selling to the public’ event next month.

Thanks so much for viewing this feature, you’re invited to stay a while and take a look around. I hope you enjoy your ‘Inspire’ time.

My Latest Instagrams

Here’s the latest from my Instagram feed…

Sunday was Open Studios at my art studio building – enjoyed meeting new people and painting.

I decided to gauge opinion on expressions for the Inspire by Kim bear:

“Before I sew I’m wondering which bear has the most endearing face, from these digital mock-ups.”

I was shocked that the post had over 300 comments. The preferred face was 1, followed by 5 and then 3. The poll demonstrated how people respond differently to expressions.

The next was: Screen printing time with pink and yellow on satin and calico. (See the picture of the outcome lower down this post…)

We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon in the Peak District:

Enjoying feeling like flying – Curbar Edge, Derbyshire, UK.

I’m proud to introduce the completed Inspire by Kim bear. Made from fabrics I designed created using batik, sublimation, tie dye and dry point printing. http://bit.ly/2nfw0jv

I was afraid to see the face for fear of messing it up, but I’m relieved that he looks happy with my work. Phew!

My bear – now complete
Inspired by the exquisite bleeding hearts growing in my garden (inset) I created this repeat pattern. I took an online course last Autumn, which is running again now, I can recommend it – Pattern Camp

From the screen printing onto calico I made a tote bag, with machine embroidery of my design.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these latest creations. To see more you can enjoy the many art exploration posts on my website, at my Facebook page or Instagram.
