My Week on Instagram

As I don’t post everything on my blog here’s the latest from my Instagram feed. I like the instantaneousness of Instagram and the global reach. Lovely to think of someone  thousands of miles away viewing my artworks.

I announced that I will be speaking and exhibiting at an International Women’s Day Event on 8th March, and created this artwork for the event marketing.

I continue to develop my learning of developing repeating patterns, this time using a watercolour and metallic mandala, based on techniques learned whilst studying with Jessica Swift’s Pattern Camp.

I like to take a peek at photos I took a year ago and saw this painted lady. I added a face and replaced the background to make a vibrant image with the mantra – Stride On – You’ve Got This. A positive nudge for anyone who may be struggling with January Blues.

I shared the video of the creation of my latest commissioned artwork for a Manchester United Football Club fan.

I played with some fabrics that I had screen and collograph printed to create a moulage on a mannequin. And realised that fashion may be my guilty pleasure.

Empowered Woman Artwork

Life Coach Elaine Mitchell asked me for an artwork for two Empowered Woman events for International Women’s Day. I’ll be speaking about my journey and exhibiting original artworks for, prints and exciting new products for sale, at the event on 8th March.

Here’s the story of development of the artwork, as drafted for Elaine’s blog

Developing Artwork For Empowered Woman Events By Life Coach Elaine Mitchell

I was delighted that Elaine asked me to create an artwork for her two International Women’s Day events on March 7th and 8th 2017 at Hotel Van Dyk.

I’m a Sheffield based artist and illustrator with the brand of Inspire by Kim. After a successful career, in travel industry public relations, blowing my knee was the impetus to become a full-time artist. Now creating art and illustration for myself, and my wonderful customers, is the good that came out of major injury.

Elaine’s brief to create a dynamic brand image, demonstrating empowerment, authenticity, strength, warmth, flow and generosity is inline with psyche of the female characters that I create. My characters are their authentic selves and thrive by living this way. The ‘Wonderful Women’ in my Portfolio demonstrate this theme, such as my ‘Leaves Lady’, which I used to promote my April 2016 exhibition.

After giving a lot of thought to Elaine’s brief I sketched a number of concepts. I wanted the piece to have a lot of energy, demonstrated by colour, and to symbolise positivity ahead. I developed ideas using markers, Lino cutting, inks and a great Sheffield made colour crystal product called Brusho.

Elaine loved the a number of the artworks but was keen to change the background colour. The chosen artwork was the colourful figure striding forwards, as her fabulous self, towards a shining future.

I replaced the background with Elaine’s signature green, as used on her website and book cover. I left enough space alongside the figure for Elaine to add information about the wonderful events in March.

Spectra Electra – Elaine asked for a name for the woman, Spectra then Electra popped into my head.

It’s great working which Elaine as she’s so bubbly, positive and fun. I’m delighted that Elaine has asked me to speak about my journey and exhibit at the Empowered Woman Celebration on 8th March at the Hotel Van Dyk.

All the best to Elaine for great events, I’m looking forward to them. For more information on the two events head across to Elaine’s website. To buy tickets for the 8th March event click here.

I’ll be offering original artworks, prints and exciting new products for sale at the event on 8th March.

Football Commissioned Artwork

I’m delighted to reveal my latest artwork, my largest commission to date – for an avid Manchester United fan. Sharing the story of this artwork is poignant as it is the two year anniversary of blowing my knee, the event which led me to follow my love of art.

The 60 x 90 cm original artwork of Manchester’s world famous football club, created to meet with a detailed customer brief, charts the club’s history in a timeline, from Newton Heath to present day, including the Munich Disaster, and the treble win in 1999.

Viewed from the Stretford End the artwork depicts the energy of a 70,000 strong crowd on a vibrant match day at Old Trafford football ground. The composition spans the clubs history and brings together key players, managers and moments of the clubs highlights. Landmarks of the the city of Manchester are in the distance.

The artwork represents Eric Cantona, Sir Matt Busby, Sir Alex Ferguson, The Magnificent Sevens – Best, Robson, Beckham, Ronaldo and the VIP fan.

The ad boards display inspiring words and the goals are formed of written quotes chosen by the customer.

Commissioned by the customer as a surprise for her partner, the artwork was completed in December 2016.

This challenging commissioned football themed painting allowed me to communicate energy and positivity, which are key intentions of my ‘Inspire by Kim’ work.

The artwork came about after the customer saw my Barnsley Boy commissioned artwork, completed in late 2015.

It is now two years since I blew my knee skiing, the event which was the impetus to the decision to become a full time artist. Having completed this artwork helps to heal the impact of the injury and rehabilition which I have undertaken ever since.

This artwork is for an individual and is not connected to or endorsed by the football club.
